Harpenden Cricket Club opened their brand new pavilion on Sunday, June 30th. More than 200 people attended on a bright summer’s day to see the Harpenden town mayor Cllr Brian Ellis, join Chairman Simon Wade, vice chairman Simon Caunce, Bruce Claridge, MD of Claridge & Hall and architect Graham Reid at the grand opening.
It was a special day embraced by everyone involved with the club. From the under 12s to the captain of the over-70s team – everyone took part in a cricket match, and an under-nines girls match was played on the outfield during the interval.
The pavilion now features three changing rooms, a players’ balcony and improvements to the lighting, heating and lounge facilities. It is a major step forward for the Club to help it keep growing.
Harpenden Cricket Club chairman Simon Wade said: “The new pavilion provides a tremendous facility both for sport and community use. We are already one of the largest clubs in Hertfordshire and we now expect to grow further, particularly within the junior boys and girls programmes.”
At Harpenden Building Society, we are delighted to be involved and support the Cricket Club, contributing to the funding for the project, along with Harpenden Trust, Sport England and donations from members.
